B12K : Google Caffeine
Aug 17th
Since few months , we have all been able to notice the growing number of new search engines, all aiming to dethrone google from its throne, but we have to admit that google still has a big step ahead and it will not be as easy as it seems to overtake it.
And in fact , After working on it quietly for several months, Google has released a new version, still in test, of its search engine named “Caffeine.”

Described as “an architecture of a new generation of the search engine”, this project would help “increase the volume of pages indexed speed and accuracy of our ranking, “says the official blog of the company.
the Most of the changes were made in the internal structure of the search engine. for a normal user the changes can’t be noticed. The test Web page also looks exactly the same as the current search page, i mean you won’t even notice that you are working on a completely new Google , but the difference is in the results .
however , Some changes are visible. The generation of results pages is , according to figures provided by Google, a lot more faster, even if it is not perceptible to the user (a few tenths of seconds in general). The volume of results returned is smaller, and the hierarchy of pages is also slightly altered.
Links to Google News, Google Images or Google Blogsearch are positioned differently on some results compared to traditional research, but the criteria determining the position of the blocks are not explained by the company.
Google’s announcement came just a bit after the announcement made by Microsoft, stating that it was going to replace Yahoo! by its own tool, Bing.
Google added also that the project “Caffeine” is intended to improve the performance of his own tool and not to compete with its competitors, unfortunately “Caffeine” does not improve Google in terms of research in real time, a sector on which the search tool Twitter is especially efficient.
