B12K : Microsoft Security Essentials
With Security Essentials, is the little caterpillar OneLiveCare eventually becoming a butterfly? In any case, it’s exactly what Microsoft is hoping today by launching the final version of its new free security solution.
While we expected an online version it’s finally one of the most traditional software to install on the desktop, that Microsoft offers for download.
however, Not for all users, as Security Essentials is reserved exclusively to owners of windows operating systems, which means XP, Vista or Windows 7 (which will be released soon). Therefore no question of targeting Linux, Unix and Mac OS users. It’s designed logically to a Windows user running his computer on an original version of windows , a process for the verification of authenticity is there to verify during the installation of the antivirus that the version of your windows is not a hacked one.
Microsoft Admitted also that it’s new security software is designed to protect the users from most common threats such as viruses, worms and other malware.
Although it offers no firewall – which is as you may know is naturally present in Windows Defender – Security Essentials offers also a tool for behavioral analysis and protection against rootkits.
Windows Security Essentials: The ideal companion for netbooks?
As long as it was designed not to grab a lot of system resources, both in terms of memory footprint or CPU load. If we look a little closer, this free software is almost the ideal companion for netbooks, more known for their portability than for their power.
It remains to be seen whether the quality and performance of the software will be as interesting as expected . Especially as it appears as a natural competitor of other free antivirus (AVG, Avira Antivir, Zone Alarm …), the fight may be unfair when you are facing heavyweights such as Symantec, McAfee or Trend Micro.
Symantec, through one of its senior managers Mike Plante, has already indicated that Security Essentials will place its users in a very risky situation, as it’s not able to provide a means of effective resistance against the threats.
A remark which has no reason to worry Microsoft for at least 2 reasons. First, the antiviral engine of Security Essentials is identical to that of Forefront Client Security, which suggests that it provides a level of relatively efficient protection.
Moreover, it’s because of the main reason why this antivirus was launched, which seems primarily to meet the expectations of a large segment of users. Those who are not necessarily connected with internet 24h a day and with a browsing behavior that limits the risk of infection.
here is a very interesting video that i found on youtube and explain a little bit how Essentials works .

The history of Microsoft and hackers is long and full with very different points of view . Many argue for example that the company has deliberately left many people use its products without paying anything to gain market shares. It is true that Windows has for long had a reputation of a system for which [...]
